Wirral Farmers' Market won the respected Radio 4 'The Food Programme' Best UK Farmers' Market Award on 28 November. The Awards were presented in Birmingham Arts Centre by a host of stars from the world of TV and Radio. We have had a host of press, radio and TV coverage since the event - including an 8-page spread in the BBC Country File magazine. Tense evening! The awards included categories such as 'Farmer of the Year' and 'Best Take-Away' were keenly fought. In our category we were pitted against Riverside Food Market in Cardiff and St Giles Farmers Market in Kent. Our turn came after a nervous wait watching the other categories and was presented by Henrietta Green. Anne Benson who was interviewed by Sheila Dillon presenter of the Food Programme commented that the market's success was a reflection on the hard work by the volunteers who run it and the support of the local community. Hear it all on Radio 4 The Awards were broadcast on a special Radio 4 programme on Friday 30 November, but to listen to the clip of our award, please click here. This will open your default media player and start playing automatically. If you do not have 'broadband' this may not work. Stars taste our produce! Before the Awards each finalist was invited to showcase their produce at a buffet and from our market were Betwixt Beers, Mary's Homemade Cakes and John Jones fruit and veg. Rick Stein was interested to meet Betwixt as he is working with a local brewer and also tasted Mary's homemade scones coming back for seconds - praise in itself!
